Established by the International Tennis Federation

Duties of the tennis coach at Smash Tennis Academy

    1. 1

Respect students at all times. Be honest and consistent with them. Honour all promises and commitments, verbal and written.

    2. 2

Share impressions with students and any other relevant person, taking into account individual sensitivities and needs. Avoid overly negative feedback.

    3. 3

Recognise students' right to consult other coaches and advisors. Cooperate fully with other experts (e.g., sports specialists, doctors, physiotherapists, etc.).

    4. 4

Treat students fairly in their sporting activities, regardless of gender, race, country of origin, sporting potential, colour, sexual preferences, political and religious beliefs, social and economic status, or any other factor.

    5. 5

Encourage and help students to be autonomous and take responsibility for their behaviour, performance, decisions and actions.

    6. 6

Involve students in decisions that concern them.

    7. 7

Determine, in agreement with students and any other relevant person, which information should remain confidential and not disclose it.

    8. 8

Create a supportive atmosphere among students.

    9. 9

Encourage students to respect each other and be respected for their human qualities, not their playing level.

    10. 10

Implement adapted training methods that will benefit students in the long term. Avoid any method that could harm them.

    11. 11

Ensure that exercises/training have been designed taking into account the age, experience, abilities, physical condition and psychological condition of students.

    12. 12

Be fully aware of the authority acquired over students due to the nature of the relationship. Therefore avoid any intimate sexual relations that could arise from this position.

    13. 13

Avoid any situation that could be interpreted as compromising.

    14. 14

Strongly discourage students from using performance-enhancing products, drinking alcohol, smoking or using any other prohibited substance.

    15. 15

Acknowledge that coaching objectives for a student may not always be identical to the student's own objectives. Seek excellence based on realistic goals while fully considering the student's growth and development.

    16. 16

Respect the individual characteristics of each student and always prioritise their long-term interests.

    17. 17

Set realistic and motivating goals for each student.

    18. 18

Behave in an exemplary manner at all times, promote the positive aspects of sport and tennis with an irreproachable attitude and project a positive image of tennis and the coaching profession.

    19. 19

Not take advantage of professional relationships for personal, political or financial purposes to the detriment of students' interests.

    20. 20

Encourage students and other coaches to show integrity in their relationships with others.

    21. 21

Respect colleagues, behave courteously and act in good faith.

    22. 22

When offered to coach a student, ensure that the student (or any other person) has professionally ended previous collaborations with other coaches.

    23. 23

Accept and respect the role of officials as guarantors of fair competition in accordance with established rules.

    24. 24

Know and comply with the rules, regulations and standards of tennis and encourage students to do the same. Apply the rules to the letter and accept their spirit.

    25. 25

Be loyal and not falsify professional qualifications.

    26. 26

Be open to others' opinions and always have the principle of learning and improving.
